For the last 18 months or so it’s been interesting to see all that’s been written about Internet 3.0, latent semantic indexing, co-occurrence matrix and more.
This all relates to the direction that Google is moving in terms of ranking sites and individual pages in those sites.
What we’ve seen from working with clients during this time period is that more content is better (not the automated content that was so prevalent several years ago – Google caught on to that one)… real, valuable content. But it’s more than that. And that’s where the real work begins. We’ve experienced (more correctly, our clients have experienced) some very cool increases in search engine ranking when their content is organized in themes, words that relate to each other in search engine proven ways – it’s more than just using synonyms from Thesaurus.com and the like. Of course, the pages of content have to be linked together in a strategic fashion, but it’s really not all that difficult.
What’s most interesting to me is that a lot of people are still believing in the “Silver Bullet,” the one thing that will make all the difference. As we say down in Arkansas, “That dog don’t hunt.” It gets down to understanding and implementing the proven methods – content, thematically related, and linked together correctly. Simple…but it takes work.
More on this in future posts.
